First time. Last time? My hopes were high as I landed in Mexico for the first time in my 38 years. Somehow our spicy neighbor to the south had alluded my travel itinerary for far too long. My short stop in Tiajuana in the 90’s doesn’t count. Touchdown welcomed four days of sun at an all inclusive beach resort for my good friend Charlie’s wedding. The sun didn’t disappoint but the food at the various resort, all-inclusive, buffets left much to be desired. The wedding food turned out to be top notch but it left me seeking tasty for most of the non-wedding event meal times. I finally found solstice with a rarely available in the USA fruit tucked away at the end of one of the buffet counters.
Passion fruit juice is in my top 3 juices of all time and when I find the opportunity to get it straight from the fruit I never hesitate. Eight ripe, juicy fruits later I satiated my craving. This stealth action became ritual for the next three mornings until I headed back to the airport without a drop of “real” Mexican food in my system. You bet I’ll be back. Next time for the locals Mexico not the tourists.
