There is a place down the street from me called Wine:30 that has a lot of different Bruschetta’s. Bruschetta is one of Kelsey’s favorite things to eat with a meal and I wanted to bring her there on Valentines Day before our dinner for some Bruschetta and wine. However, we didn’t have time, I kind of over packed the day. A couple days later we wanted to go to for lunch and we invited my roommate Laura along as well. We were all so excited for some wine and Bruschetta but when we arrived it was closed. We were all very disappointed and hungry. Look for the Wine on 30 post in a few weeks.
We needed to find an alternative lunch spot. Laura and I had talked about this pizza place down on 14th street called Artichoke. It has been around for a while now and it always has a line down the street of people waiting for pizza. We decide to headed down and see what all the hype was about.
When we arrived in early afternoon and there was already a line, even with it being extremely cooooold outside. We suffered through the wait and ordered one of each slice for the three of us. We had a total of four slices, it could have been five but they were not making the stuffed artichoke slice any more that day, even though it was 1:00 in the afternoon, WHAT!?!
We started off with their signature slice, the Artichoke and Spinach Dip slice. This was a huge slice and there was a lot going on on that slice. We also got the Margarita slice at the same time. The other two slices were being made so we found a stoop outside and started to see what the big buzz about the artichoke slice was. I personally was not super impressed. I actually really enjoyed their Margarita slice a lot more. The artichoke spinach was good but to me not worth standing in a long line for.
After we finished those two I went back to get the Crab and Sicilian slices. Each time I got our slices I had them cut them into 3rds so it was easier to eat. The crab was interesting but I don’t think I would need to order it again. I enjoyed their Sicilian slice way better. It was very saucy and had really good flavor.
Over all I was not sure what all the hype was about besides the uniqueness of the types of pizza. Go and check it out and let me know what you think. I liked the traditional slices better. I think it was their marinara sauce that won me over.
After the Pizzas, two doors down there is Led Zeppole, which has the same owner as Artichoke. They specialize in Zeppolies, Fried Oreos and Cannolies. Fried Oreos is one of my mother’s favorite things. I had to try a taste to see if I should bring her some time. I just wanted a taste and the person behind the counter was very nice to let me just try one instead of buy three. That is usually how they are sold. The fried Oreo was pretty good. It was not too doughy which could kill the tasty of the Oreo.
After everything we ate, which was not that much, we needed to walk it off. Later that night we were going on a 2.5 hour adventure at the IMAX theater, Avatar!

I agree – completely over rated. The artichoke slice is basically spinach/artichoke dip in the form of a slice. By far the best one they have is the margarita – but given no tables and long lines (for what I have no idea) – I will probably never go again.
