This week we tuned into Marc Maron interviewing Michael Rappaport. The conversation started with city pizza preferences. The topic popped because they both now live in LA but Maron spent years in NYC and Rappaport was born and bread on straight 80’s hip-hop culture. Pizza is a cultural thing as much as it’s a quick food hit. Even though they netted out thinking the war is bunk, since artisanal food culture has made everything really good in most major cities, we still like the idea of drawing a line in the marinara. We first learned about Hawk Krall and his illustrations on a trip to Philly. We popped into Hot Diggity, a South St. Hot Dog joint, and the menu was a set up 15+ visual masterpieces. The walls at Hot Diggity are embellished with Hawk’s unique designs. Besides listing the ingredients and displaying the hotdog, he peppers in specifics about the cities the Frank’s are named after creating art so interesting that they sell prints of the menu. Hawk’s gone on to illustrate lots more food things. From festivals to T-Shirts to MORE menus, his unique hand preemptively conveys the food fun your about to have.

This November is one of the most important elections in our history. Collectively we have the power to shape our future, as we always did it just seems extra important this go round. The pride in this power is palpable and you might just need something a little more lighter-hearted than the recent headlines to show your patriotism. This donut flag tee should do the trick while reminding you of the sweet reward you can indulge in after you hit the polls. No matter your affiliation, or lack there of, be prepared for long lines and hunger pangs. Which reminds us to plug this equally important effort for those experiencing food insecurity. Now the only thing you need to decide is if your a yeast or cake donut lover. There it is, yet another divide. Why is there always 2 dominant choices? Can’t there be room for a strong third. In the case of donuts we supposed that would be cronuts.

We are Arial font fanatics. This meme, trend…what ever it is…speaks to us every time we see it. Last week in New Orleans we discovered the perfect rendition. The Crawfish Boil T-Shirt turns the typical equation version of this trend into a recipe. It made us stop and think just how simple great food is. I suppose this also helps if there’s too much pre-boil partying and you forget the next step. Either way, pinch and suck while you wait for this to arrive in the mail.
