Last weeks avocado heavy line up got us to reshuffle the on deck folder and surface this find. MoguMogu food puns it out with the best of them. Wear this avocardio tshirt to the gym and not only own the cardio section but, I bet you score with that avocado toast loving, upper east side, brunch bitch on the elliptical you’ve been eyeing for weeks. We first learned about Hawk Krall and his illustrations on a trip to Philly. We popped into Hot Diggity, a South St. Hot Dog joint, and the menu was a set up 15+ visual masterpieces. The walls at Hot Diggity are embellished with Hawk’s unique designs. Besides listing the ingredients and displaying the hotdog, he peppers in specifics about the cities the Frank’s are named after creating art so interesting that they sell prints of the menu. Hawk’s gone on to illustrate lots more food things. From festivals to T-Shirts to MORE menus, his unique hand preemptively conveys the food fun your about to have.
You know we have a soft spot for pizza at FTHQ. Teagan White’s “Trash Squirrel” Pin reverberated through the office after Missus Tasty found this rodent gem. Teagan has a whole series of critters doing people like things. Most of it illustrated paint on paper. That’s why this is a rare gem and probably sold out by now. There’s something about a squirrel with a slice that just screams NYC to us. Maybe given that a pizza slice is the perfect quick hit and NYers tend to move like squirrels through the streets. Either way it’s a great addition to a lapel as you hustle from meeting to meeting wrestling your fellow citizens and hunger pangs.
We’ve been seeing this in many styles, designs and mediums and think it’s pretty right on. Maybe that’s my poutine loving wife’s influence but this rhyme is far better than some of the crass copy us boys throw around at happy hour. Also, if the Fries Before Guys T-Shirt is the flag woman start waving these days it beats the “Diamonds are a girls best friend” mantra of the 80’s. I’ll buy deep fried spuds for her all day everyday. I know, diamonds are still a “thing” but a man can dream right?
