When we land in Montreal we head straight to Beauty’s. It doesn’t matter what day, time or reason for the visit, we always find ourselves in a booth at the famed diner in about 40 minutes after touchdown. Last weeks trip was no exception. My move is always a St-Viateur Bagel with lox, cream cheese and tomato, collectively known as the Beauty’s Special. On this visit there was a new addition, The Beauty’s Shoppe. Jumping on the merch train, and I don’t blame them, the owners enlisted, designer and illustrator, Sasha Endoh to ink some classic menu items. The Beauty’s Luncheonette Bagel T-Shirt was a no brainer for me. Sasha’s simplistic black and white design makes for an understated badge I can use on my home streets of NYC proclaiming my favorite bagel breakfast.
More Design Stuff
Delaney Barbecue T-Shirt
While we’re on the topics of BBQ and Hawk Krall this week. Daniel Delany, of Briskettown fame, contracted a limited edition Delaney Barbecue T-Shirt for his smoking hot (literally) bbq empire. It’s limited edition run all but sold out as quickly as Daniel’s fried chicken pop-up feast did last summer. We’re hoping Hawk and Briskettown will do a re-release this summer or collaborate again sooner than sooner.
Pizza Pin
So, we have a thing for pizza. Not only do we love to eat that crispy crust, bubbling cheese and aromatic triple meat topping BUT, we’ll wear it on our lapel. Jen Adrion and Omar Noory make lots of perfect little, delicious items. None more satisfyingly cute than this pizza pin. Their website does tons of explaining on who they are, their Ohio studio details, what they have done (and it’s a lot) and where you can get their stuff. Aside from their creative excellence the seemingly obsessive use of ™ and ® is fantastic. As in their tagline, WE MAKE THINGS™. The line YOU LOVE THINGS™. Or, as in this mantra, These Are Things®. Whether truly trademarked or registered, the inside joke or official-ness is welcomed. Plus, they have cats that are dope based on their Insta.
Pocket Pizza Notebook
These days in Williamsburg’s hipster mecca, a notebook is almost as mandatory as a carabiner of keys clipped to your jet black jeans. Moleskine dominates mindshare with Field Notes and Shinola journals coming in a far second. Gold Teeth Brooklyn decided to smash the foodie and the Brooklynite together by borrowing the big players form factor and creating a food focused series of pocket notebooks. Of the three, the Pizza Notebook reigns our fav. Now every time we go to jot down an ironic, clever idea for a future tweet we’re reminded of one of the greatest food items in the world. Not to mention the one responsible for fueling New Yorker’s through the 80’s and 90’s.
Po-Boy Poster
Dirty Coast is one of our favorite New Orleans shops. Dedicated to all things NOLA, the Po-Boy Poster ranks as one of our favorites. We love deconstructions. We flip out over exploded views. We think sandwiches are a food group. I don’t think this needs more explanation but this 12.5 X 14.5, french paper, Po-Boy Poster gives the newbee a crash course in components and construction. If you decide to give this as a gift please be sure to explain what “dressed” means and insist that if ordered “dressed” is mandatory.
