Ant’s last supper
Ant heads back to the ship tomorrow so before he left we had one more throwdown. Ant has this crazy attachment to Burgers. In honor of that, we headed up to Big Nick”s for some classic greasy spooness. On the roster was Josh, Serena, Sarah, Athena, Seth and a fairly pregnant Tracy. As usual we went over board with the order getting ourselves in deeper than necessary with cheese, grease, oil, meat and fried things.
NIck’s is a tight place. And, tight is being generous. Finding a table that is suitable for 8 is not really possible. So The waitress’ and busboys became our close friends to say the least. NIck’s is decorated with an eclectic mix of things from the 70’s and 80’s. The kind of decor that has been long forgot around 1992. A sort of 3D decade centric wallpaper that brings much of the ambiance and a bit of the charm to this restaurant.
We started things off with some pizza. See, the thing is…..Nick’s is a bit of everything. It is not just a burger joint. The pizza is actually quite good. We app-ed it up with a slice of plain and a slice of “7 topping”
Next we got down to the main even. I did s split with Sarah half a burger for half of this bbq chicken sandwich on garlic bread
Most of the table ordered the Bistro Burger. You may remember this tasty morsel from a previous clip of the week.
This burger is a hands down must when visiting Nick’s. The burger patty is perfection in its sloppy construction, medium rareness. On top of that Nick adds mushroom’s and onions and 3 slices of swiss. It is all laid on some thick cut sourdough toast. Are we done? Nope. Nick then butters the outside of the toast and the whole construction gets thrown back on the griddle for about a minute. This seals in the butter, melts the cheese and melds the rest of the ingredients together. 15 seconds off the griddle it hits your table and you are elbow deep in one of the best burger’s in the city.
Ant is off to the Caribbean for 3 months and then heads over to Europe so it will be a while until we have a NYC meal like this again.
