Japanese Market and Bar
Rocket Bar and Market, Hakodate, Japan from Anthony Anello on Vimeo.
After 8 days at sea, and crossing the international date line (Sept 30th never happened!) I land in Hakodate, Japan. I set out exploring the town and found a few markets with loads of Squid. There was so many packaged squid I couldn’t believe it. The markets were fun to walk through and see the difference types of fish and the live sea life that they sell. Walking around a little more we notice that there is a ton of ice cream and gelato places. Every street you turn down there is another ice cream store. So I had to indulge in some gelato. We walked into a place called Saltim Bocca, Italian gogo. This little gelato/sandwich shop made a killer strawberry cheese cake gelato on a triangle cone. I was very impressed.
We needed to walk that off so we started on an incline up a long hill to get to a cable car that took us to the top of a mountain that over looked the city. The view was very nice but by the time we got up there the clouds came and it started to rain a little on us. I got a few nice pictures and a panoramic shot.
It is interesting how restaurants in Japan display pictures of their food as the menu. I New York I always try to avoid places that have a picture of their food on the menu. I can across a place that went a step further, instead of showing you a menu with picture of the food they decided to display fake rubber Japanese dishes in a display case outside the restaurant. It looked real and good.

I don’t know what possessed me but we walked by a place called Rocket Bar and saw pictures of burgers. I was intrigued, possibly because I was reading about Kobe beef the night before, and we went inside. We were very hungry and started to order everything, including:
3 burgers (1. Cheeseburger, 2. bacon, fried egg, relish, Lettuce, tomato, mayo burger, 3. Salsa burger)
1 pizza with ham
1 hot pork sandwich
It was all very good. The bacon burger was the best. However, the Strawberry cheese cake gelato was the highlight of my day.
Tomorrow it’s all about the Japanese food
