I love today but I’m a hopeless romantic. It’s why Missus Tasty’s Valentine’s Day lasts 72 hours instead of 24. But, for those of you who are haters of cupid you have to remember love isn’t just for people. It’s for places and food too. What better example to illustrate this point than the above Eton Mess we scarfed down at The Dandelion in, you guessed it, the city of brotherly love.
An Eton mess is a traditional English dessert consisting of a mixture of strawberries, pieces of meringue and cream. Invented at Eton College (London outskirts) in the early 19th century, it’s traditionally served at the annual cricket game against the pupils of Harrow School. The dessert usually consists of consisting of strawberries, pieces of meringue and cream although a variety of fruit has been substituted as you see above with the raspberries. This being my first time exposed to the sweet and it’s historical timeline I fell in love immediately. Appropriate right?
