Forked with Barb Salzman
Barb, as she is universally know throughout all of her various friend circles, has been in my life since I moved to Manhattan post college. Connected through our mutual friend, and roomate at the time, our 1997 Manhattan meeting was only the beginning of an intersecting and far reaching friendship that was about to develop. From parties, to career, to San Francisco, to entrepreneurship and back, we’ve covered the full spectrum of what interpersonal relationships can. Today Barb sits in a Chelsea loft peering out at the highline only feet from her window as she contemplates the color and construction of a decor item for her next event. Since she started Hatch Creative Studio, an event design company, nine years ago she’s made quite the list of friends. Her uncanny ability to think pretty and logistically simultaneous can tame even the most outlandish creative director (this writer included) while providing a stunning and unique look that makes everyone happy including the budget warlords. If I could turn the cloning machine on she’d be one of the first in line. Fresh off our project at SXSW, I though it appropriate to feature her in this weeks post. A few months back we sat down at Frankies 570 to talk Mac+Cheese, eating partners and delivery. Here’s what she had to say.
What do you think when i say dinnertime?
I think of what can seamless deliver to me 🙂
What is your favorite meal memory?
When my parents would go out when we were kids and my dad would make us mac and cheese with surprises for dinner before the babysitter got there. He would add different shaped pasta like pinwheels to the kraft macaroni. This was before mac and cheese came in different shapes.
If you could have your last meal with one person who would it be? Why?
Hmmm. My dad because I love the conversations we have over dinner and love trying new things to eat together that we could potentially grow in the garden. Otherwise, it would be my friend Ally. We never have a meal without ordering everything on the menu. We have to try everything and generally love to eat the same things. She’s my favorite eating partner.
What did we eat?
Two of Frankies 570’s perfect pastas. Just like a couple weeks ago, we sunk into the atmosphere and enjoyed the sweet potato & sage ravioli in parmesan broth along with the mushroom pappardelle with mushroom ragu & chestnuts. There could have been a couple glasses of wine in there too.
