As part of the Food Book Fair, Foodieodicals has become one of the most popular events of the weekend. Given the increased influx of Food Zines this past year, we’re sure this is going to be bigger and better and tastier than all previous years combined. With shot outs like “Coachella of writing about eating,” or “a voracious reader’s dream,” and “food geek heaven”, it’s now wonder where you’ll find us in early May. Let’s not fight over the last copy of Life&Thyme…OK?…Please?…See you in the BK. May 1 from 2-6PM @ Wythe Hotel in Brooklyn.

This Oyster Festival is near and dear to my childhood heart. I learned how to swim with oysters under my feet. Since I was 10 his festival, named after the bi-valve and the town I grew up in, has taken over the small North Shore Long Island village. Back then, a few buses of people would amount to 10,000 people over the three-day extravaganza. Now in its 32nd year, 200, 000 attendees flock to what was my sleepy hamlet on the bay. It’s fair to call it BIG TIME. The food vendors now require a food court. There’s a seafood themed shopping pavilion. Music is no longer sourced from the high school band talent. Of course, there are plenty of competitive eating bouts. Most oysters, fastest oysters, biggest oysters, they all get prizes and make for some crowd roars. Being an insider, I tend to hang back. Belly up at one spot and let the action unfold around me. Give it a try. October 15 – 16 Weekend in Oyster Bay, NY.
This was bound to happen. No surprise it is happening in Brooklyn. I’d be a jerk if I pretended that I wasn’t excited but the over used term for the Insta phenom of food photography is almost as ubiquitous as the selfie. Never-the-less how do you not attend this promise of the digital food you swipe past and double tap all day being layered onto a bed that you can roll around on with your friends. Short of that dream coming true there will be ALL THINGS FOOD according to the organizers. Come to Food Porn Fest with an empty stomach and leave with an STD. Satiated, Tired and Digesting. Sat, Nov 5+6, 11am – 7:00pm in Brooklyn.
There’s been a lot of breakfast for dinner this year and it’s only March. Building on the success of Choice Eats, the Village Voice peeps bring us Brunch Eats. As you’d expect, breakfast is prepared one evening by 20+ top restaurants and bakeries. Your ticket gets you a taste of all of them as well as breakfast cocktails and music. Note on the cocktails, since breakfast IS at dinner time, the 2 mimosa rule is lifted allowing you to indulge as if it was dinner time. Wait…it is dinner. If it’s anything like Choice Eats this will sell out. Snap your tickets up quick. May 11th from 8pm-10pm @ the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in NYC.
SunFest is a great excuse to spend 5 days hanging on the West Palm Beach Gold coast. Besides a line up with The Roots, Meghan Trainer and Steve Aoki (that barely does the lineup justice) the whole mini-week ends with a fireworks blowout over the inter coastal. The best part of all of this is you can break up day 2 with a food bonanza featuring some of WPB’s best culinary artists. SunFest Pairings is in it’s 5th year and is a bit like a bar crawl for food. The best kind of crawl in our book. Thursday, May 26th from 5:30-9pm in West Palm Beach, Florida.
