If we stand for anything, it’s dinner. The more special the more better. When we discovered Mark Ladner, pasta making magician of Del Posto and Lupa fame, was celebrating his one year anniversary of his fast-casual Pasta Flyer with a supper series we we’re psyched to say the least. An already high-rotation, week day, post-workout, dinner for us because of the incredible value Mark and team bring to the literal table…Secret best meatballs in city, secret great wines by the glass…he’s crafted this dinner series with some of his best chef friends. From the likes of Mario Carbone to Maialino’s Nick Anderer to Barbara Lynch (who has the best oyster bar in Boston amongst her food dynasty) the menu creations are bound to be off the chain. We’re not sure what we’re most excited about. Two Italian’s in the same kitchen or a food storyteller augmenting the current Pasta Flyer menu. It looks like this was a Resy and Applestone collab too. Props to them as we recently were swooned by the 24/7 butcher. Tickets will undoubtedly go quick so make a move briskly. September 26th through November 7th in NYC.
Every year one of the grandfathers of the supperclub movement leaves Buenes Aires for the US. When they land, Collectivo Felix complete a multi-city tour popping up dinners in some of the best know pop-ups in the states. One of those stops is always at The Whisk and Ladle. We can’t say enough about these two Gastro-awesome friends so all we’ll say is, get a ticket. The evening will be amazing with every sip and bite BUT more special, you’ll be hosted by one of the originators of the movement in one of the original spaces that supperclubs were reborn. April 30th @ 7pm in Brooklyn.
Spain has some of the best food and films in the world. Focusing on the filmography of Pedro Almodovar (You know, the “Volver” and “The Skin I Live In” guy) Antonio Ortuno brings this food to NYC with his Almodovar’s Night Pop-Up Dinner. Each of his 4 courses is based on a different one of Almodovar’s films. Get your Spain on Saturday, March 19 @ 7:30 PM in Brooklyn.
You know how much we love film and TV inspired dinners. Graham Bellefeuille and Ty Cox are cut from the same cloth. They created Guild of Cookery based on the medieval meals you’d find in Game of Thrones. Sans blood, gore and beheadings of course. They honed their craft in some of the best kitchens in SF. Most notable, for us, Foreign Cinema. A place that inspired our supperclub. Given the impending new Game of Thrones season, we’re betting tickets will go quick.
The Blind Pig Supper Club has been doing it since 2011. Doing what requires more words than I have available right now. These pictures encapsulate their mission and events. What we love is that they share our same ethos. The idea of meeting new people and becoming friends is tied into everyone of their erratically themed evenings.
Saturday, February 9th at 7:00pm. Spice and Forking Tasty unite once again for a one night only, chef’s table, Italian celebration. Drawing from Ben and Jason’s extensive travels through Italy they’ll present a 7-course meal that’s sure to keep you guessing what’s next. Following the traditional style of Italian suppers you’ll work your way through an unexpected series of dishes, flavors and presentation. Drawing on northern, southern and foreign influences the meal will be an over-the-top tour for your tastebuds and emotions alike. We’ll also pair select Italian and Californian wines that match the dinners flavor progression from small to big. This one comes with major bragging right so grab a seat while you can.
The original Kong underneath his favorite building. That’s right, this dinner is on a roof just under the Empire State Building. How fitting for the movies climactic ending. Better yet, we have an amazing 5 course tasting menu prepared. While your tastebuds explore the 5 boroughs you’ll be comfortably seated in this epic movie’s finale location. How can you pass this up? Grab a seat while they last.
Saturday, September 18th at 7:00pm. Come join us for some shagadelic tasty! This month we bring some British to the deck. 1960’s free love Britain that is. Don’t worry, all the spinning beds and naughty mood lights have been put away. We will take that kitsch and put it into the menu instead of the decor. It’s just safer that way. Aimee and I have reinvented some of our favorite British dishes and we hope you’ll come by to try them out. Of course, Austin gets naughty and goofy on the big wall during the later half of the evening. I can’t wait to see what Lily from Dandelion Wines digs up for this one.
Come join us for camp. Saturday, July 31st at 7:00pm. This is a star studded flick but before any of them were stars. On the last day of summer camp, Janeane Garofalo, David Hyde Pierce, Michael Showalter, Marguerite Moreau, Paul Rudd, Molly Shannon, Christopher Meloni, Elizabeth Banks, Michael Ian Black, Bradley Cooper, Amy Poehler, Zak Orth, A.D. Miles, and members of MTV’s sketch comedy group The State try and find someone to kiss at the end of the big talent show that night.
Saturday, June 19th at 7:30pm. A trip around the world with Dr. Jones. Pulling from the countries the movie lands in, Aimee and I were sent into overdrive. From Nepal to Egypt to Peru there are tons of great tastes and ingredients to play with. For now, be prepared for a culinary voyage. We will post more as it develops. And no poison dates, we promise.
Saturday, June 5th at 8pm. Bringing a bit of California to the BK. Aimee and I are bringing a special twist to this months dinner. We partnered up with our good buddy Jack to bring you some of the spectacular and rare wines mentioned in the movie. In between scenes, as you eat and sip, Jack will impart some vino knowledge and pose some wine facts vs film fiction while pouring the next flight. In the meantime, Aimee and I will have some delicious food pairings that are inspired by these delightfully fermented grapes. We will also draw on the fresh and simple flavors from southern California to complete the menu. We are feeling some lamb, maybe some risotto and the dessert on this one…whoa, hold onto your forks! We have been planning this one for a long time. The idea that when Paul Giamatti drinks so will you was too good a daydream to not make reality. For those aficionados, the wines will include Sanford, Fiddlehead, Byron, and Hitching Post, heavy on the Pinot Noir.
Saturday, October 10th at 6:00pm. The FINALLY. Our LAST dinner on the deck for the season. Once again, Aimee and I have not finalized it yet. We have been waiting for this one all summer. Just like Mama Scorsese’s meal we will be cooking up some Italian classics with a bit of our usual twist. We promise by the time you leave you will feel as full as Tony Soprano looks. We will update it as soon as we have the savory details.
Saturday, August 15th at 7:00pm. Once again, Aimee and I have not finalized it yet. We promise a summer menu that will remind you of summers by the beach as a little kid. Killer shark not included, unless of course we make it into a ceviche. We will update it as soon as we have the details.
