Forking Tasty – Philippe’s, San Diego from Anthony Anello on Vimeo.
It has been a while since I have had some good italian food. When we port in San Diego there is an information booth across the street and I went in to get a map to Little Italy and asked for some recommendations. I really needed a Chicken Parm sandwich in my life, you know what I’m talking about. The lady at the front desk recommended Philippe’s. Yes, it is the touristy attraction but this place has been around since the 50′s. Little Italy is on India St and you can find Philippe’s at:

Pizza. It’s arguably the quickest and most versatile fast food out there. The trend these days in NYC is to bring pizza back to its Napoli roots. Thinner crust, less topping and more time to make it equates to the gourmet-izing of this friendly snack. I have been to Napoli. The pizza is great. But, You don’t need to charge me $25 because you throw some kale on top of a super thin crust and have some 500 year old wood burning stove to cook it in. I was in Chicago this week, so I opted for the exact opposite of this New York pizza revolution in the video above.

Casa Tua – Aruba from Anthony Anello on Vimeo.
My first time getting off the ship since I arrived was Aruba. We were there from the afternoon to late night so it gave me some time to go to the beach and get some dinner.
The beach was nice and the water was warm. The beach we stayed at for the day was behind Hotel Riu and the Westin. I did a little tanning with some friends before headed back to the ship to get ready for dinner. We ended up going to an Italian/Spanish Restaurant called Casa Tua. Casa Tua has 3 different restaurants, Pizzeria, Barcelona, and Mediterranean. We went to the Pizzeria. It was good, as you will see in the video. We had a table for 12 and we were celebrating a birthday, however the birthday boy left before he got his special flaming birthday dessert. We took care of that for him.

There is a place down the street from me called Wine:30 that has a lot of different Bruschetta’s. Bruschetta is one of Kelsey’s favorite things to eat with a meal and I wanted to bring her there on Valentines Day before our dinner for some Bruschetta and wine. However, we didn’t have time, I kind of over packed the day. A couple days later we wanted to go to for lunch and we invited my roommate Laura along as well. We were all so excited for some wine and Bruschetta but when we arrived it was closed. We were all very disappointed and hungry. Look for the Wine on 30 post in a few weeks.
We needed to find an alternative lunch spot. Laura and I had talked about this pizza place down on 14th street called Artichoke. It has been around for a while now and it always has a line down the street of people waiting for pizza. We decide to headed down and see what all the hype was about.

Tauranga New Zealand is a really beautiful town. There is a mountain called Mt Maunganui that overlooks the town. The water is a beautiful blue and the cliffs are made up of jagged rocks. In the morning a few of us from the ship trekked up the mountain. It had a path and it took about 20- 30 minutes to reach the top. The summit is about 230 meters. It is a nice little hike. There were 2 ways to hike up so we chose the other way to head down the mountain. The view was really nice from the top…

I am not proud to say it but, I ate Domino’s Pizza for lunch. Wait….Let me explain. I was spending the day at the Yahoo! Mumbai offices working with the team to nail down all the details of the October project. Morning turned to afternoon and the hunger struck. The work wasn’t done and a working lunch was in order. Unfortunately Indians are obsessed with western culture and their “fast food’ is McDonald’s and Domino’s. Besides the obvious travesty of me having pizza in India, I had to really push myself through some more deep rooted issues…

I stayed a second time at the Good Hotel, a small boutique hotel in San Francisco’s SOMA neighborhood. This time I tried out the pizza place in the lobby. Good Pizza makes a thin crust Napolitano style pizza. Toppings run the gamut from traditional pepperoni to the Scandinavian bacon and potato to the Californian walnut and apple.
I ordered two small pies for sampling purpose. First this..

My first stop in Norway was Oslo. Not all that much going on in Oslo but we took a ferry over to the Viking Museum and saw some old Viking ships from the year 850. Now that is OLD! We headed back to the main restaurant area on the water to find a place to eat. I was with a few friends that have been in Oslo already and raved about this place called Peppes. I was skeptical because I didn’t want to have another Italian meal in another country. However, they kept raving about it and it is our fathers name so I figured… what the hell…
