A random Friday night took me into a dinner with two of my friends that I have been in desperate need of a “catch up” with. Barb, Laura and I met for a sip and then we all turned hungry. Last Saturday I competed in the risotto challenge. Me and 14 other contestants went head to head for best dish. The challenge was a lot of fun and it was great to see so many familiar faces but also meet a bunch of new ones…

Last night I had what some might call an opportunity of a lifetime. Since Thomas Keller‘s Per Se restaurant opened in the famed Time Warner Center, a reservation has been as sought after in NYC as a yellow cab during a thunderstorm. My good friend Bennett scored a reservation and bestowed the incredible honor of accompanying her to this meal upon me. Rounding out our threesome was Mark, a creative director, who Bennett was working with on her latest Yahoo! campaign. Our reservation was at 9pm. Upon arrival I was told that gentlemen were required to wear a sports coat while in the dining room. I have not heard this in years and needless to say I was not wearing a sports coat. I was promptly and perfectly fitted with a coat from their stock and were were escorted to a waiting area. What happened next falls on the unbelievable side of my gastronomic adventures…

It takes forever to get a reservation and it takes 3 hrs to eat once you do get one. My friend Aimee scored one this week and lucky for me her husband Eric was fishing in the keyes. I accepted teh invite and we took a 4 hour hiatus from the world to duck into the thin, dark bar that is Momofuku Ko. $163 and 22 courses later we emerged bigger but better than when we arrived. Ant heads back to the ship tomorrow so before he left we had one more throwdown. Ant has this crazy attachment to Burgers. In honor of that, we headed up to Big Nick”s for some classic greasy spooness. On the roster was Josh, Serena, Sarah, Athena, Seth and a fairly pregnant Tracy. As usual we went over board with the order getting ourselves in deeper than necessary with cheese, grease, oil, meat and fried things…
