Kelsey and I had been to Kiel Germany a bunch of times but never went anywhere special because it was always raining. For my last visit to Kiel the sun finally decided to shine. We walked through town and the first thing we were looking for was Starbucks. When you’re on a ship for a long time you sometimes crave the things that you’re used to from the homeland.
Keil is a nice little town. There are a lot of shops and restaurants to choose from. We ended up at a place called Alex. It was a nice little German restaurant. We ordered very typical German dishes. We ate way to much and definitely over ordered for 2, but that’s how I do it.

Vapiano is a “fast food” Italian joint that I discovered three years ago while living in Berlin. Graciously called The Vap, Jen and I frequented the establishment at least 5 times a week during our Berlin days.

The last port of call on the ship was to the small town of Kiel Germany. To my amazement Kiel had a Vapiano. From the moment I discovered this I could not wait for the meal. The above shows how the reunion unfolded.

Finding an elusive meal that we both had back in 2006 iced the cake. This small sea town is mostly a tourist destination but Anthony and I did our best to poke around and explore some of the nooks and crannies discovering some hidden gems. Music by Daft Punk. It was the only German beats in my iTunes.

The last 10 days I have been on this ship with Anthony. I learned all about life on the Eurodam and what he means by “waking up in a new country everyday”. Although the ship has it’s share of delicious food and wonderful drinks, I am going to keep this post short leaving the reviews to Anthony. Look for those in future updates.

My next few posts will feature the ports of call we stopped in as we pecked our way around the Baltic Sea. I will keep the text short and let the videos speak for themselves. I think they will be successful in giving you a little taste of Scandinavia from the eyes and taste buds of Anthony and me.

In the spirit of having some food worked into every post we do, here’s a picture from my favorite meal on the ship. There is an Asian restaurant called Tamarind. Pictured below is their rib appetizer. Asian style pork ribs with a sweet glaze. The meat fell off the bone and left me wanting two more orders of the delectable slow cooked, swine.

There was a group of us going out in Germany wanting to do something that was normal. Living on a ship we never get to go do something normal, like go to a movie. We decided to go bowling in Germany. We had until 10:30 to get back to the ship so we decided to get a bite to eat before bowling. We stopped at a few places and somehow ended up at an Italian restaurant. I was definitely not the decision maker because when in Germany I want beer and bratwurst. I would have been happy with something on the side of the road. No biggy, I’ll be back there again and again.

Casamia was quite good. We had about 7 people and we needed to split up because they only had small tables. My table had 3 people, Kelsey, Sam, and myself.

I was a little hungry and new, form the last time I was in Germany, I had to eat a currywurst . I stopped off at a little stand on the street and I’ve got to say this thing was more than a snack. It was about 10inches long and had some girth. (Ok, Minds out of the gutter and back to the food). They chopped it up and put this goo on it. It looked like molasses. Then they sprinkled curry all over it. It was so good to bring back the memories from 2006.

Then we stopped by this candy stand. It all looked so good but I had to hold back because we all know why I should not eat it. The group I was with definitely got a bunch. There all dancers and will burn that off in a sec. Look at those pics, that candy looked good. Ok, So I had a couple pieces … but just a couple.
