I am on a mission to find the best of the best in each port that I go to in Alaska. In Juneau I found the best at Tracy’s King Crab Shack. I was having a hard time finding the best in Skagway. I really was not sure if I was going to achieve deliciousness here. I needed a little help from a friend.

My buddy Skip Bowman, a musician on the ship, and I have for 2 weeks now been trying to get dinner at Skips favorite Thai restaurant in Skagway. The plans fell through again but I needed to check out all the hype. Starfire is mainly a Thai restaurant but they also have other cuisines on the back page of their menu. They all sounded good as well. Ranging from a Pasta Carbanara to a Burrito. I was one of the early birds of the evening and sat at the bar. The Mexican music was playing, I was able to see into the kitchen, and was chit chatting with the waitress about the menu. Yes, Mexican music in the Thai restaurant, that was no typo.

I ordered the Purple Curry dish with Chicken. As an appetizer I got the Egg rolls. I got 7 mini Egg Rolls. They came with a spicy dip and was delicious.

My Purple Chicken Curry came with red peppers and green beans. It was delicious and super hardy. The chicken was shredded which was different for that kind dish. Because if that I had perfect spoon full of chicken, rice, beans, peppers and coconut milk in every bite. It was perfect and sooo filling. I could hardly move after the meal. They really give you large portions. I could have shared the entire meal and been perfectly satisfied.

Look how hardy it is!

While I was watching the plates come out of the kitchen, I was salivating. Each plate came with a huge amount of food. In the hour or so I was there the burrito can out twice. I have to say I have never seen such a mammoth burrito before. I have to come back with a group and share all the different dishes.

Like I said about Tracy’s King Crab Shack in Juneau, if you come to Skagway you have to go to Starfire. It’s the hit!
