The cliché “great thing” about living in a city like NYC when you’re food-obsessed like me is that you have the menu of the entire world at your fingertips, just waiting to be ordered, admired, and posted to your Insta feed by your intrepid, food-adventuring self. And don’t get me wrong, I live for the prospect of an authentic dim sum brunch, followed by a dinner of Ethiopian food, followed by an ice cream concoction with flavors more complex than my high school chemistry homework, all in one glorious, gluttonous day. But let’s be real: sometimes “at your fingertips” means a cross-borough subway ride with multiple transfers. Sometimes, the most exotic thing you can fit into your schedule is a slice of dollar-pizza from a spot with a redundant, non-Italian name. And sometimes, the options are so overwhelming that you give up, stay in, and make do with cheese and crackers you resurrected from the dark depths of a cabinet. That’s why we’re excited for Edible Escape, Edible magazine’s annual round-up of the best international bites, all presented in one jaw-droppingly beautiful venue. Delish dishes from around the globe? Check. Easy commute between cuisines? Check check. All that’s left to do is take some killer pics for your followers, but that one’s entirely on you, my friend. We’ve gone on record several times tout “New Orleans has the best food in the country on a per bite basis.” The Taste of Louisiana Festival will give you a chance to test our theory with 100’s of available bites from some of the greatest creole and cajun chefs the bayou state has to order. The only catch with this one is that it’s being held in Texas. We still can’t figure that one out. Saturday, March 19 @ 1:00 PM in Sugarland Texas.
This is a book signing with beer, amongst other delectables. If you read yesterday’s post you already know about Ina Yalof’s Food and the City interviews. No where is more appropriate than Spanish Harlem to sign a book based on what “real” New Yorkers think about food and their passion for working with it, in it, on it and for it. Aside from that, Brooklyn Brewery is serving dishes paired with beer, dishes made with beer and…well…beer for drinking. Add to that it’s in Vendy Plaza and you’ve just booked your Sunday afternoon solid. Sunday, July 24 at 2pm – 4pm in Manhattan.
In a Brooklyn world we love to see Queens getting it’s fair share of glory. After all, we think Queens has a lot more range than Brooklyn’s artisanal, reclaimed wood, farm to table world of new. They are even dropping a DJ into the mix so you can fall into your sugar coma with some blissful back beats guiding you into your slumber.
