I have not been to Victoria British Columbia a lot yet. I just started my next contract on the ship and was recommended by two friends to head to Ferris’ Upstairs Oysterbar. I only have a couple of weeks left on these Alaska runs and I can’t wait to go back. Victoria is a fun little city with lots of restaurants and bars. Hope I get a chance to try as many places as I can.

My last day in Juneau I took a canoe to the Mendenhall Glacier. We were paddling for a while to get to the glacier and I worked up an appetite. Usually when I am really hungry I want the perfect meal. The perfect meal would be something delicious that will fill me up and doesn’t cost too much. I decided to get my last hit at Tracy’s King Crab Shack. I have to say that is my favorite place to go in Juneau to eat. However, it may be delicious but it didn’t fill me up. I walked by a crepe stand and saw a cheeseburger crepe on the menu. That sounded interesting and I would have liked to try it but they closed by the time that I decided to get it.

The Burgers I have experienced in Vancouver have horrible but after talking to a few locals they confirmed my choices of burgers. My friend from the ship that lives in Vancouver directed me to Vera’s Burger Shack. It just happens to be in a short walking distance from the ship. To my surprise it was located in the heart of Vancouver’s Jazz Feast. Check out the video on how it all went down.

The Feast and the Furious

Food can’t get faster than this. I need not say more. But, I will. For our Dad’s 60th birthday we took him on a car tour like no other. Six exotic cars on a convoy from Englewood, New Jersey to Bear Mountain, New York and back. To prep up for the high speed voyage we fueled up with a local diner meal pre-drive. Smiles all around. First Shawerma Since Iceland

I was walking around Vancouver and was looking for something good and cheap to eat. I passed by the Aladdin Café and they had Shawerma, and I love Shawerma. I got the works and it really hit the spot. I met the owners and they come from Iraq and decorated the inside of the restaurant with items that represent their culture. The owners are very nice people and the food was good. I just wish I could have smoked the hooka but they were only for display.

Last Thursday I met up with the boys from Immaculate Infatuation once again to sweat it out at the new Pies ‘n’ Thighs on Billyburg’s Southside. As always, I’ll leave the specifics of the meal to them. Our mutual taste preferences make it quite easy for me to leave the reviewing and wordsmithing to them. Double Dinner

They say you can eat your way around the world without ever leaving Queens, NY. One night a few weeks back I partnered up with my buddy Erik and we tried to do just that. We really only made it through 2 countries but we saw the storefronts of many more. Trip number 2 is in the works. For now enjoy the journey above.

A Must Eat When In Juneau

Tracy’s King Crab Shack is in a word fantastic. My friend Jason has been telling me about the shack for 2 weeks. He said you have not had king crab until you go to Tracy’s. This has been by far the best place I have come to in Alaska. I wish I was able to meet Tracy but she was on her way to Newport Road Island to submit her chowder into a competition. Let me tell you, she may win. I’ll let the video do the talking.

A Different BLT

My colleague Will gave me a tip one of his favorite sandwich in Ketchikan, the Halibut BLT. You can find this delicious sandwich at Annebelle’s Keg and Chowder House. I took a seat at the bar and had a great experience. I am not a huge bacon fan, I know, you can wipe the shock off your face. However, the bacon with the Halibut was not very over powering and it gave the sandwich really nice flavor. I also ordered a side of their famous chowder. The chowder was good but not as good as Cheers in Boston. The nice surprise at the end was there was a piece of bacon waiting for me at the bottom smothered in chowder. What a nice surprise. Thanks Will!

It’s Been A While For Good Sushi

It had been a long time since I have had sushi that was good. The Ship sushi is not the best. I don’t usually have that much sushi because it’s a lot of rice for me. However, once in a while it hits the spot. We have a late port in Juneau and I decided to get some sushi at Wok & Teriyaki before meeting my friends over at the Viking. The Viking is the local pub most crew go to to let loose for a little while before heading back to the ship. I loved both places.
