Saturday, June 4th at 7:00pm
Join us for a hole-in-one! Here’s the skinny on the fat.

Starts: 7:00pm (cocktails and appetizers)
Ends: 11pm (really, when the film is over)
Donation: $60 (make a reservation below)
Movie: Caddyshack

To kick off season three we dug deep into our favorite movie list and pulled out Bill Murray, Chevy Chase and Rodney Dangerfield. Join us as we take a trip back to 1980 where some of us actual made our scratch by carrying rich peoples woods 18 holes over highly landscaped terrain. If you were a caddy or not, you can at least relate to the pesky gofer that seems to turn the whole country club upside down.

Menu

You can bet on some Country Club fair for sure. Of course Aimee and I are still scheming on the exact menu but think old standards with a new twist. The club sandwich probably will make an appearance and you better believe we will serve Arnold Palmers all night.

TABLE FULL-Reservations

Sorry, we have a full deck. To be reminded about our next dinner, jump on the list.

More on Reel Tasty:

Jason and Aimee pair a 5 course gourmet meal for 20 friends, some new and some old on a HUGE deck in Brooklyn. As the name implies, we will be screening a movie during the meal. Don’t worry, there will still be plenty of time pre-entree to mingle, catchup and meet some new friends. Once the sun goes down we will role the film in all its two story high glory. This is an experiment, so we are not sure how much silence or chatting will go on. That’s for you to decide. We hope you will come out and enjoy yourselves with us this summer. See you on the deck.

You can check out pics from our last dinner here.

If you can’t make this dinner but want us to send you an invite to the next one, jump on the list.

UPDATE: Last night our first Bike-in-Theater rolled into Greenpoint Brooklyn. Despite the weather we had a fantastic turnout. Look for the recap post soon, with video. In the meantime, make sure you are on the list for our next one.

This year we thought we’d pay homage to spring, bike month and season three of REEL TASTY, our monthly dinema supperclub, by launching with a very special FREE event in May. Over at Forking Tasty HQ we have been percolating the reinvention of an american classic, the Drive-In. We love the idea of this lost bit of Americana and wondered if their was a modern, urban, twist on this mid-20th century weekend fad. As we dug around we started to focus on the come back of the bicycle in all styles, colors and types. We are guessing you’ve noticed this too. We’re not saying New York has become Copenhagen but we are on our way. With so many of us riding these days we thought a Ride-In-Theater would be a great way to enjoy the beginning of the warmth here in NYC.

Of course, we like a little mystery so we have to keep the location, day and time undisclosed at the moment. That’s what the list below is all about. Once you sign up, we will send you a note with some specifics on the Ride-In. A day before show time we will send those who signed up information on where to go and when to arrive. A few things you can expect; lots of bikers, an old school hit movie and some delicious snacks. It wouldn’t be Forking Tasty if we didn’t provide some delectable morsels to munch on.

So, jump on the list and join us for our first FREE Ride-In-Theater. Read on to see the list.

RECAP-The Lost Hour Supper

The Lost Hour Supper-2011all photos: Kun Kim

A peek through the lowered rollgate revealed a narrow table of twenty that was nestled in between the towering wine shelves and the purposely dark hum of a refrigerator bank.

Through the steel and glass you could hear only muffled conversation, the clang of plates and the reverberation of laughter as it filled the converted shop and snuck out the cracks in the front windows. Last Saturday 20 lucky singles mingled it up after hours in a little Greenpoint wine shop to sip some vino, taste some edibles and meet their possible spring fling. I’d say the evening was a fantastic success being that our guests made a connection with more than the food. To pull this supper off we partnered up with Dandelion Wines to provide the space and wines that complimented our four course feast. We then summoned some singles who were…

RECAP-REEL TASTY: Austin Powers

The British invaded the REEL TASTY deck last month with it’s comfort classics and it’s, now icon, international man of mystery. Aimee and I spun up our take on some of those classics while Austin Powers provided the entertainment.

For those who are unfamiliar with our dinners, Reel Tasty is Forking Tasty’s summer supper club where Aimee, my co-chef/host, and I screen a movie on a 2 story building while our guests sample some of our latest and tastiest gourmet dishes. What better way to start the evening but with a specialty Pimm’s cup, some Port-glazed walnuts with stilton and some curry shortbreads. Ohh, how…

Starts: 7:00pm (cocktails and appetizers)
Ends: 11pm (really, when the film is over)
Donation: $60 (make a reservation below)
Movie: Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery

This month we bring some British to the deck. 1960′s free love Britain that is. Don’t worry, all the spinning beds and naughty mood lights have been put away. We will take that kitsch and put it into the menu instead of the decor. It’s just safer that way. Aimee and I have reinvented some of our favorite British dishes and we hope you’ll come by to try them out. Of course, Austin gets naughty and goofy on the big wall during the later half of the evening. I can’t wait to see what Lily from Dandelion Wines digs up for this one.

Menu

Appetizers
Mini fish & chips
Welsh rarebit
Sausage rolls with fried quail egg

Entree
Short Rib Shepards pie
Walnut stilton apple salad
Curry chips
Unmushy peas with mint pesto

Home made tea and scones ice cream
Plus, a surprise. Think custard or pudding goodness.

REEL TASTY: Kindergarten Copphoto credit: Kun Kim

Last month we had our second curated REEL TASTY. First it was bachelorettes this time is was teachers. Nine teachers and their husbands joined us on the deck for Kindergarten Cop and our take on some cafeteria favorites. As you can see by the home made Whoopie Pie above, we really pushed the gastro-limit with this menu.

REEL TASTY:Spaceballs

The movie screen currently has scaffolding on it. Uhhh, we have to fix that.
Saturday, August 28th at 7:00pm
Come join us for some space travel. Here’s the skinny on the fat.

Starts: 7:00pm (cocktails and appetizers)
Ends: 11pm (really, when the film is over)
Donation: $60 (make a reservation below)
Movie: Spaceballs

Movie

We partnered up with Smaltz Brewing Company for this one and in honor of their Jewishness we figured we would bring Mel Brooks and his hilarity to the deck. Of all his movies it’s hard to pick a favorite. The deciding factor was the number of Hebrew references we could remember in each film. In the end, Dark Helmut and the rest of the Spaceballs came up winners. The hilarious Star Wars spoof is complete with Druish Princess’, John Candy as a half man-half dog and Pizza the hut. I guess all we can say is “May the Shwartz be with you!”.

Menu

Ohh, this will be interesting and tasty for sure. A mix of Jewish food and space food is already being crafted by Aimee and I. We are smoking a brisket for sure and there are talks of homemade pickles and kinish sandwiches. Although the juices, I mean brine, is still churning, salmon will be represented along with lots of Smaltz beer. Lily from Dandelion Wines will do her best to pick some delicious bottles to pair with this juxtaposed theme.

Reservations

Reservations are required. Space is limited to 16 people. When booking please make sure to change the quantity field to the number of people in your party. In the note section let us know if there are any food restrictions anyone in your party has.

RECAP-REEL TASTY: Wet Hot American Summer

REEL TASTY: Wet Hot American Summerphoto credit: Kun Kim

I am always amazed how hot food can silence 16 talkative, jovial and passionate conversationists in mere seconds. Perhaps food is the great equalizer. Perhaps it is the key to that ubiquitous and intangible “world peace” idea. If it is, we are doing our part every week on a big deck in Brooklyn.

For those who are unfamiliar with the dinners…

REEL TASTY: Wet Hot American Summer

Saturday, July 31st at 7:00pm
Come join us for camp. Here’s the skinny on the fat.

Starts: 7:00pm (cocktails and appetizers)
Ends: 11pm (really, when the film is over)
Donation: $60 (make a reservation below)
Movie: Wet Hot American Summer

Movie

This is a star studded flick but before any of them were stars. On the last day of summer camp, Janeane Garofalo, David Hyde Pierce, Michael Showalter, Marguerite Moreau, Paul Rudd, Molly Shannon, Christopher Meloni, Elizabeth Banks, Michael Ian Black, Bradley Cooper, Amy Poehler, Zak Orth, A.D. Miles, and members of MTV’s sketch comedy group The State try and find someone to kiss at the end of the big talent show that night.

Menu

This menu will be really fun. Think summer camp and BBQ and that’s exactly what you’ll be tasting. Smoked chicken and delicious ribs are a must. You can bet there will be our version of smores but it might be a little different that you are used to. Of course, we will have hamburgers. Little mini ones so you can sample a few of the gourmet flavors we have planned. Home made “pillow fight” ice cream will end the night. Take a guess what that is. As always, Lily from Dandelion Wines will pick some delicious bottles to pair with our menu. Last I talked to her she was raving about a hi-end box wine. Hmmm, so totally camp!
