It was more like brunch but still way too early for cookies. When they are fresh baked and topped with a coarse sea salt, I think anytime is cookie time. The General Greene, in Fort Greene Brooklyn, does the best warm chocolate chip cookies this side of Mom’s house. Nine cookies for four people at 1pm on a Sunday is an understatement if called indulgent. It is down right evil. This morning we were bad (place grin and villainous laugh here)

Sometimes you eat in a place because you like it. Sometimes you eat in a place because you are forced to. And, sometimes you eat in a place for both of those reasons. Silicon Valley is a sea of tech complexes and campuses that do not promote leaving once you arrive. Because of this, many of the cafeterias are like visiting Epcot Center. You can eat Indian, Chinese, Italian, Mexican or American all at the same meal. In the many years that I have been visiting one very special spot in the valley, I have found several staples that keep me excited about my next meal. Above is the grand winner and it is not what you expect.

My buddy Dave Severino, a stand up comic, saw my posts about Pancakes on the Rocks and was waiting for me to get back to New York to grab some brunch. He really wanted some pancakes because of the picture of the slow dripping butter oozing down those delicious pancakes. However, somehow we ended up at a Mexican brunch called Vamos.

After hitting The Spotted Pig earlier in the week, I found myself having an 8am breakfast with my new buddy Ken Rona at April Bloomfield and Ken Friedman’s other restaurant, The Breslin. Of all the standouts on the menu the $21 full English breakfast could have been renamed “Jason Anello”. The video above will give you the rundown on the food. To get to the Breslin you have to walk through the lobby of The Ace Hotel. At 8am it was interesting to see so many people up, online and sipping coffee in the retro, chic hipster-esque lobby. Being such a jaded and seasoned New Yorker, I couldn’t hold back a small sigh of disgust for ALL things trendy. I know that is the way it goes. I quickly got over it as I entered the Breslin and saw a pig hanging from the ceiling. I was home.

Really? Did we need to try and improve on this staple food item. Would this mean Snap, Crackle and POP are on steroids? So, it tastes terrible. I was almost excited for the lager krispie but I was totally disappointed when it hit my taste buds…

It was my first day in Sydney Australia. We had ported about 2 weeks prior but I couldn’t get off the ship. Most of my friends were able to get off and see the amazing city that it is while I sat in my office staring directly at the opera house. What an amazing view but a frustrating day.
My friend Sean and I left the ship and headed to The Rocks, which is the European style area in Sydney. There are lots of shops and restaurants all around. It is a historical and beautiful area of Sydney…

Egg white, brie and honey crisp apple breakfast sandwich on a whole wheat english muffin. Apples on brie could be one of the best things on earth. Up there with PB and J, Mac and Cheese and the ubiquitous Gin and Juice.

Last Wednesday I woke up early and started the 40 minute process of making Irish oatmeal. I am not too sure what the difference is between Irish and regular oatmeal other than the cool tin can the Irish oatmeal came in. None the less, pretty tasty with the agave nectar on top.

In Pattaya Thailand we spent the night at the Discovery hotel. That night was wild, I saw some things I have never seen before. For more on that, check out Pattaya nightlife. In the morning, I woke up early because we really wanted to ride Elephants for the day. The hotel room came with a free breakfast buffet. There were some American traditions at the buffet but a lot of typical Thai food for breakfast…

Yes. I know that is a huge claim. “Best Ever” is not to be thrown around lightly. My trip to Santa Barbara continued to delight right up to this tasty breakfast at Eladio’s
Let’s qualify “the best”. Start with a fresh, flaky piece of brioche. Then with an egg wash stick it to another piece of fresh, flaky brioche. That gives you a double thick piece of bread that looks like challah bread. It also gives you a “pocket” between the two pieces of bread. Now fill that pocket with vanilla, cinnamon and marscapone cheese. Grill it in some butter. Plate it and pour on some warm, real maple syrup.
Take a good long look at the pic above. That’s right. That is warm cinnamon and vanilla riddled marscapone cheese oozing out of the center of that brioche. Now I ask you, are you really going to argue the “best ever” label I tagged it with?
