BBQ @Mulls

After getting back to San Fran from Seattle, I was hungry. I arrived back to Mulls’ place and like some sort of divine intervention there were a bunch a friends, a bunch of wine and a bunch of food in his kitchen. Ben was at the helm working on 5 to 6 dishes. Brit was making up a little snack plate and Ricky and Mulls were playing with their iPads. Kelly and I got into the wine and the conversation and before you knew it

I made it to Curacao and wanted to walk around town and see what was cooking. However, it was Easter Sunday and there was nothing open in town. One place I found was a Crepes place. I don’t eat crepes that often but really enjoyed these. I sat outside under some palm trees with a nice breeze while I ate my crepe with some friends. It was that picture perfect lunch setting. Doesn’t get better than that, food, friends and relaxation.

Salumi (Batali's Dad)-Seattle

I never expected to find great salami in Seattle. But, I am a big Batali fan and I figured he had to learn from somewhere. Salumi is an Italian cured meat shop in the heart of Seattle’s Pioneer Square run by Armandino Batali, Mario’s father. Armandino had a full career at Boeing as a process control engineer but after he retired…

Flying into SEATAC airport in Seattle leaves you with few options for some early morning chow. Asking the locals came through again when I was directed to this “frozen-in-time” pancake house with a German surprise.

My first time getting off the ship since I arrived was Aruba. We were there from the afternoon to late night so it gave me some time to go to the beach and get some dinner.

The beach was nice and the water was warm. The beach we stayed at for the day was behind Hotel Riu and the Westin. I did a little tanning with some friends before headed back to the ship to get ready for dinner. We ended up going to an Italian/Spanish Restaurant called Casa Tua. Casa Tua has 3 different restaurants, Pizzeria, Barcelona, and Mediterranean. We went to the Pizzeria. It was good, as you will see in the video. We had a table for 12 and we were celebrating a birthday, however the birthday boy left before he got his special flaming birthday dessert. We took care of that for him.

My Last Burger Fix Before I leave

Before I left for the ship I had one last burger with Jay. This was going to be the last GOOD burger I ate for a while. The ship burgers are in a word, OK and nothing more than that. The next burger I eat that I will really enjoy will probably be in Ketchikan Alaska at Burger Queen. So I need to get my fix before I left. Jay took me to Stand 4, which I had never been to before but Jay has been many times.

Txikito Cocina Vasca

I have had latin fever lately. I am not sure why, but I like it. Seems that given the choice my go to is a new taco join or tapas spot. Coverage of this current food fetish starts with Txikito Cocina Vasca. I originally discovered this spot because of it’s ranking on NY Mag’s Best Burger list, which I have yet to have. Despite the allure of a double burger named after the devil, I stuck with Basque classics. The atmosphere is not quite as bar-ish as I remember San Sebastian. But, after the first bite of plate numero uno, I was transported back to a Tuesday in June 2005 when I stood in a small tapas joint struggling to order amidst the locals as the clock struck midnight and the nightly eating frenzy went full swing. The ARRAULTZA (sofrito, palacios chorizo and a fried quail egg) was…

Last Meal at Yahoo!

Last meal at Yahoo!

Yesterday I closed a pretty huge chapter in my life and opened up an even bigger one. It’s the kind of day I live for. Leave something totally awesome and jump into the complete unknown because you have a feeling, in your soul, that it’s more awesome where you’ll land. You know I am a “life is about the journey not the destination” guy. Hence this blog. So, the move to start my own agency is not that ridiculous.

My last day at Yahoo! after 4 years would not be complete without a last meal. For years I struggled with the horrible customer service, apathy and mediocre food located in the bottom of my office at Cafe Beyond. I have many tales of horrors that happened when I ran down for a quick coffee or a snack. For a while, I put a personal ban on the spot but it’s convenience forced me to lift that ban. Rain and wind in NYC has a profound effect on me. I felt it only appropriate that I venture to this land of disengaged staff and pre-made sandwiches one last time. An homage to the days of old. A cleansing for the adventure about to begin. I stuck with my standard, romaine lettuce with eggplant, zucchini, chick peas and cucumbers. A little Asian sesame dressing and a slice of multi grain bread. It was delicious in it’s mediocre goodness. Every bite pushed me closer to my exit from the life I currently was living.

Soon enough it was time for my exit interview. I laid out my Yahoo! property on the table like a bad lieutenant being suspended for not obtaining a warrant before chasing a perp through his apartment and onto the rooftops which, ultimately, lead to a midday, public shoot out culminating in a tanker truck explosion and the escape of the suspect. Sorry for the run on but you can see why. My interview ended as I finished my last bite of salad. My equipment was given to IT. I threw out my salad trash and walked out of the office for the last time as a Yahoo! employee. Manifold was born, my stomach was full but I was far from satiated. Here we go.
