The Barking Crab – Newport R.I. from Anthony Anello on Vimeo.
I recently jumped on the Eurodam to visit Kelsey for a few days. I got on in New York and left in Boston. On the way we stopped by Newport Road Island. We wanted to go check out a few mansions that day but got caught up on the ship and only have a few hours to play in Newport. We walked around town a bit and found the Barking Crab. It’s been a while since Kelsey ripped into some crabs so we thought it would be fun.

Once again, Aimee and I have not finalized it yet. We promise a Cajun and Creole delight for your palettes. Perhaps we can conjure the memories from a past Mardi Gras or NOLA Jazz Fest. The good memories that is. No one needs to be reminded of the night you lost your shirt and your dinner, almost simultaneously, then woke up on the steps of that strip club on Bourbon with the big legs sticking out of it. I digress. We will update it as soon as we have the savory details. Grab a seat while they last.

Ike’s was recommended to me by my buddy Amit. It has taken a few trips to SF for me to get here but I finally made it.
I intended to order some veggie sandwich but once I looked at the board I couldn’t help but go meat. I settled on a (name of the girl I am dating) which consisted of Halal Chicken Breast, Honey Mustard, Avocado, PepperJack.
From there I squeezed out of the tiny, cramped space and stood on the sidewalk in the Sunday sun to await my sandwich. Watching their sandwich making and serving system I realized that Ike’s put some makeshift seating along the wall of the sushi restaurant next door. They also threw a dishwasher restaurant bin next to a tree for the empty sandwich baskets. Very San Fran the way they nonchalantly extended their restaurant a half of a block. My attention was turned back to the inside of the shop because I heard the words “number nine” and “mix up” shouted a few times.

An SF friend I have not caught up with in a while is my buddy Andrew. Sharing a love for all things tasty, pretty and new, he took the liberty of making a reservation for us at Wexler’s. Wexler’s is the new upscale BBQ spot in downtown San Francisco. I am going to let the pictures and food descriptions anchor this post but before I do I just want touch on two things.
First, Andrew and I always have great meals together because we never let our conversation distract us from the food we are sharing. Amongst the marketing, NYC, music and myriad of other topics, we pause often to mention how delicious, tender or interesting the things we are eating are. This is a quality I admire immensely. Second, during this meal we knocked off a cocktail each and a bottle of wine. Now to the food in the order it was served and ingested…

Jay and I needed a bite to eat before going to see G.I. Joe at the theater. G.I. Joe was our all time favorite childhood toys as kids and we had to see this movie together. We chose a restaurant /pub close to the theater called the Waterfront Ale House. It is one of those places I go to often because I enjoy the food and their specials. It’s not a place I would find myself sitting at the bar and having a pint with a bunch of buddies. Although, they do have a nice full bar and a large number of unique beers.

So if my last LA post was the LA I love to mock, this is the LA I love to miss. I was in Hollywood refusing to valet my car on my way to meet my friend Marc and Jonell for some dinner. Both NY transplants, I had no doubt that the place Mark suggested would have a touch of east coast to its vibe and certainly not have that pretentiousness I experienced the other night.
Mark is a casting director and Jonell is a writer. That explains why they both live in LA but ironically, when I sent out a note letting them both know I would be in town, both responded that they weren’t.
All of us flew in that day or the day before but we still got it together to meet. We met at…

I don’t get to LA very often and when I do I usually seek out a dose of the infamous LA scene. It’s not that hard to find, especially if you know where to look. I rolled into town late last Tuesday to give a talk on Social Media to an internal Yahoo! audience. Also in town was an old colleague of mine from Dallas.
On my way to Santa Monica, where my hotel was, I gave Julie a call to see what her 20 was. As suspected she was…

There is nothing better than a late lunch in a tiny West Village restaurant with a buddy. Even better when that buddy is also a business colleague and the lunch is productive, creative and expens-ible.
I have been wanting to visit Cafe Cluny for a while and this recent summer day it finally worked out. I arrived first and sat at a table for two to wait for Elliott. While waiting I…

I have sworn that I would never use WiFi when flying across the country. But, for this one instance I decided to break my own rule. This post is not about the taste of salad, although it was not that bad, but about the ability to post from above 30,000 feet something I just ate.
So, without further ado, here’s a Thai Salad shout out from 37,029 feet in the air at 545mph. That’s pretty impressive for a $7 pre packaged salad. Ain’t it?

I took some time the other morning to have a business/personal breakfast with my friend Jeff. Jeff has been a long time Billyburg resident and a comrade in food talk. Earlier in the week Jeff introduced me to Ben over at Rooftop Farms where he volunteers on Thursdays.
We decided to meet in the Burg at…
